Kate Schultz, Ph.D.
Mayo Clinic & Northwestern University Sr. Program Manager - AI Education (Mayo Clinic); Faculty Director B.S. in Health Sciences / Lecturer (Northwestern SPS)
Greater Chicago Area
Since 2022, I have been the Senior Program Manager for Artificial Intelligence Education at Mayo Clinic in the Center for Digital Health. (It's a fully remote role, so I am still local to Evanston). In this role, I build and expand education programs for Mayo Clinic physicians, clinicians, researchers, educators, and technologists to facilitate the implementation of artificial intelligence/machine learning and analytics into patient care, research, and education. I also oversee several education collaborative efforts, including serving as course director for two graduate AI in Healthcare courses, serving as a rotation director for the Clinical Informations Fellowship program, and facilitating a year-long internship program in partnership with the University of Minnesota-Rochester.
Additionally, at Northwestern, I'm the Faculty Director for the new online B.S. in Health Sciences program launching in Fall 2024 and an adjunct lecturer in the Northwestern SPS pre-medical post-baccalaureate program. I'm also an adjunct professor for the EdD in Health Professions Education program at AT Still University.
Prior to joining Mayo Clinic, I spent 10 years in health professions education administration at Northwestern.
My research interests include:
- Well-being in health professions education
- Physiological and psychological impacts of stress and burnout in daily life, the impact on long-term health outcomes, and the impacts of nature, green space, and the environment on well-being
- Humanities in medical and health professions education, particularly how humanities coursework can improve communication skills
- Reflective practice and professional development
- Innovative teaching strategies to improve student learning
